OLIO
A series of 4 illustrations following a personal story of nostalgia and homesickness; each piece adapting elements of the different stages of culture shock: Honeymoon, Maintenance, Rejection, and Recovery.
Stage 1: Honeymoon
About touching the surface of a new environment, creating ripples of events that's relative through time and collecting new information
Stage 2: Maintenance
About the false sense of stability in achieving an identity that's from a hotpot of personalities around oneself. The high effort required to act as someone that's not you creates a sense of foreboding.
Stage 3: Rejection
About discarding the amount of delicate information collected previously, then building a wall and isolating oneself within. Causing harm to the flock of birds one once hanged out with and eventually left behind in solitary.
Stage 4: Recovery
About reaching a balance between wanting to fit in but still living as one's true self. The comfort of recipes from home that symbolizes reunion, and the revelation of keeping only the friendships that wants to stay. Being able to find a place of comfort to be vulnerable and accepted as who you are.
End Product
The project was initially thought of as a interactive storytelling website -- which explains the long image format. Here is a rough sample of the trailer:
More work is being done to create the end product.
